Myrtle the Talking Turtle is a brand new children’s book by author Jane Fiore. The book revolves around a talking turtle named Myrtle and her new seaside friend Nicholas.
We were hired to develop Myrtle, Nicholas and all the seaside characters for this new children’s book author. Being consistent with the styling was key in creating this world.
Behind the Scenes
Character development all starts with black and white line art sketching. Once the basic shapes are developed, our illustrator added the details such as facial features. Once the 2 main characters were approved, we were able to finish them in color, with clean line work. It is important that the illustration style fits the target audience and helps the readers connect with the story and the characters.
